Replies
Reply to at least two of your classmates. In your reply posts,
- Peruse at least six initial posts from your classmates.
- From that group, use their posts to infer and select the peer who is most like you, as well as the peer who is least like you.
- In your replies to these two classmates, open a conversation with them as you might with a professional colleague:
- Creating a response will be easier with someone who is more like you.
- But, as you respond to the peer who is least like you, consider the value of diversity in your professional relationships.
- Before you reply, think about how you might bridge your differences, getting to know your peer better during the course and derive mutual benefits from a connection you might not ordinarily make.
- Also, consider and discuss how you might use this approach to get to know diverse colleagues or to build a bridge of empathy for patients or clients who are very different from you even if there is not a large age difference.
Your reply posts should be 200 to 400 words, with a minimum of one supporting reference included.
Please refer to the Grading Rubric for details on how this activity will be graded.

Discussion 1.1 Introduction
Hello to Professor and Classmates!
My name is and I am in my 6th of 7 semesters of Adult-Geriatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Online Program. This semester is chock full of information, clinical work, and seminars. I look forward to the learning ahead and to meeting all of you!
• What event and/or driving factor in your life caused you to pursue a career in healthcare or the profession you are pursuing? If you don’t have a specific factor, then why did you choose to study your profession?
The driving factor in my life that sent me into the practice of nursing was my involvement in the care of my father from a very early age. He was stricken with a neck tumor when I was 5 and had serious issues post operatively. When I was 10 he suffered several heart attacks and a pacemaker was implanted, one of the original models, in the year 1965. He was a policeman and was now unable to work. It was a long road for his recovery and it was I who would be most helpful to him and to my mother in the years to come. As you may be able to surmise, I am older than most if not all of you. I have been a nurse for 46 years!
• If you had a million dollars to fix any social problem in the world, which problem would you focus on and why?
I believe the social problem that I would like to address would be to aid homeless families. I have volunteered as a tutor of children in homeless shelters and was enlightened to the needs of this population. When they come to the shelter, they are assigned only one room, which could house a family of 4 or 5. The kitchen and bath areas are shared. The number of families in the old Victorian house where I volunteered in Brockton totaled 8. The living situation is crowded, loud, and stressful. The children have been uprooted from their schools to attend schools in the district of the shelter home. They have become separated from their friends. Learning is in group sessions, doing homework in large work areas at long tables. If I had one million dollars, I would like to strive toward the goals of: building stronger parents, children and families; securing adequate education and employment opportunities; finding safe and affordable housing; and aiding parents in self- sufficient behaviors ( Our mission for homeless families-friends of the homeless of the South Shore, 2020).
• What health care specialty do you hope to practice in your career?
My track in the Nurse Practitioner Program is Adult/Geriatric. I feel a commitment to promoting health in my community and I am interested in working with culturally diverse, economically challenged, and at-risk communities. I believe there is a distinct need for health care providers for this community.
• What is your favorite vacation spot or place you would like to visit for a vacation?
I have a only a specific longing to see the aurora borealis in Iceland. My hope is to take a vacation there once I have completed this program!
• Name three people dead or alive whom you would invite to dinner.
I would like to invite Mother Teresa, Michaelangelo, and Albert Einstein. This is a mix of undying service, unmatched art, and brilliance.
