Dog Food Filling Line Shown Consists Two Filling Machines Feeding Onto Single Conveyor Sub Q33349211

The dog food can filling line shown below consists of twofilling machines, both feeding onto a single conveyor. Subgroups ofn = 5 are taken off the conveyor at the point shown. Each hour asubgroup is selected and weighed. X-bar and R charts are kept forthe fill contents. Each can is labeled to consist of 16 oz. of dogfood. If there is less than 16 ounces, it is considered defective. If there is more than 17 ounces, it will not go through the sealingprocess and is considered defective. The defect rate is running at5%. Half of the defects are underfills and half are overfills.Currently there are three operators at the lid sealing machine thatwill spoon out excess dogfood on overfills to get the lid on. Shortweights are a problem when they reach the market place. Both of thefill machines are brand new and state of the art. They are capableof producing a standard deviation of .1 oz. Provide a planto troubleshoot this process and identify possiblesolutions.
