Policy/Regulation Fact Sheet NURS 6051

Assignment: Policy/Regulation Fact Sheet

As a professional nurse, you are expected to apply your expertise to patient care. On occasion, you will also be expected to share that expertise.

With evolving technology and continuous changes to regulations designed to keep up these changes, there is usually a need to share information and expertise to inform colleagues, leadership, patients, and other stakeholders.

In this Assignment, you will study a recent nursing informatics-related healthcare policy, and you will share the relevant details via a fact sheet designed to inform and educate.

To Prepare:

  • Review the Resources on healthcare policy and regulatory/legislative topics related to health and nursing informatics.
  • Consider the role of the nurse informaticist in relation to a healthcare organization’s compliance with various policies and regulations, such as the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA).
  • Research and select one health or nursing informatics policy (within the past 5 years) or regulation for further study.

The Assignment: (1 page not including the title and reference page)

Create a 1-page fact sheet that your healthcare organization could hypothetically use to explain the health or nursing informatics policy/regulation you selected. Your fact sheet should address the following:

  • Briefly and generally explain the policy or regulation you selected.
  • Address the impact of the policy or regulation you selected on system implementation.
  • Address the impact of the policy or regulation you selected on clinical care, patient/provider interactions, and workflow.
  • Highlight organizational policies and procedures that are/will be in place at your healthcare organization to address the policy or regulation you selected. Be specific.
  • Use APA format and include a title page, in-text citations, and reference page.
  • Use the Safe Assign Drafts to check your match percentage before submitting your work.

Assignment: Policy/Regulation Fact Sheet NURS 6051 Sample Paper

  •             The selected policy for this discussion is the “telehealth policy,” commonly defined as the incorporation and effective use of modern telecommunication devices in hospital settings with the goal of supporting remote delivery of healthcare services. In the age of COVID disease, policies on telehealth have not only allowed patients to easily access healthcare providers but have also allowed care providers to effectively direct patients to the most appropriate level of care (Sodhi, 2020). Using telehealth, the healthcare system has managed to keep less severe cases of COVID patients under home care, thereby reducing the risks of disease spread.
  •            The nature and objectives of any policy impacts the implementation process, since all telecommunication systems are by law required to adhere to specific standards of quality. Arguably, telehealth systems, like other systems, must be qualified, advanced, and without error, and require a robust implementation plan. For instance, Usher-Pines et al. (2020) argues that to effectively start and expand telehealth programs, there is need for adequate research that facilitates state-to-state learning to inform both Medicare and Medicaid policies. This, according to the authors, would serve to eliminate persistent problems with telehealth such as a lack of clarity regarding services under Medicaid programs and insufficient reimbursement (Usher-Pines et al., 2020).
  •            Presently, telehealth is a critical component of the health sector’s response to health problems. According to the AANP (2020) assertions, telehealth harbours the potential of changing and solving some of the most daunting problems of the contemporary healthcare system, such as adherence to increased medical coverage, the inclusion of reliable payment processes and the use of small-scale service providers for better delivery. With effective uptake and implementation, telehealth promises to impact the care system by enhancing access to safe and cost-effective care.
  •            Telemedicine requires corporate strategies such as the definition of patients’ range of services. It is important to educate nurses to use telecommunication systems and to reduce errors. Other policies include methods for assessing the effects and types of error correction that may occur from remote control (Chi & Demiris, 2017).
