NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES NURS 6630

My name is Guerdie Nonez. I am a Registered Nurse in the state of New Jersey. I am currently enrolled in the MSN ( FNP) program. In my quest to become a scholar-practitioner, I have found Walden University to be the most ideal choice for my current step in this career path. The goals and mission of Walden University align with my ideologies and desires. As a health practitioner, one ought to acquire knowledge that they can use to solve problems and make the world a better place. This defines the vision of Walden University (Walden University, 2011a). Its graduates should be released to the community with the ability to apply the knowledge instilled in them by the institution to advance the greater global good.

Walden’s mission statement emphasizes on the ability of the diverse professionals who graduate from the institution to effect positive change in the society (Walden University, 2011a). In health care, positive change is measured in terms of patient outcomes among others. As such, I intend to further my knowledge at Walden to better the outcomes of my patients albeit to effect positive change. Additionally, one of the goals of Walden University is to provide innovative programs that are at par with the current societal needs (Walden University, 2011b). For instance, as a health practitioner, I look forward to being able to provide the most current and effective management to my patients as opposed to relying on old and potentially outdated guidelines.

Evidence-based practice is cornerstone to nursing and other medical disciplines. At Walden, it is the goal of the institution to provide learning using diverse approaches including evidence-based practice (Walden University, 2011b). I look forward to meeting all the university outcomes as put out by the institution. Above all, I look forward to being able to impact positive change in the profession and the society at large after completing the program.

Guerdie:  Well said!  With the changes predicted in health care in the future, well-educated graduate nurses will be so important!  You will be so glad that you made this step in your career.  Susan

Thank you. Nursing is a second career for me.   My only regret is that i didn’t do it sooner.  i’m still in my 40’s so i will be sure to maximize my potential and my knowledge in this field.   I just love helping and bringing joy to others.  I cannot wait to finish the FNP  program to move on to the DNP program focusing on Metal Health        . I was once a mental health patient ( i m not a shame to admit it)   i’m itching to help folks who are suffering and are in the verge of no return.  if i made a complete turnaround, they can too.  I’m so happy for a second chance to see the beauty of life.

Guerdie-Just like you, nursing is my second career. I have been a nurse for 20 years. I started out as a LPN and then went straight on for my associates. I have been out of school for a long time. As I watched health care change, I decided it was time for me to go back for my BSN. The further I got into my BSN, the more I thought I need to pursue my MSN. I enjoyed holistic medicine and I feel the whole person needs to be treated, mind, body , and spirit. I often witnessed in the clinic, and with an increase in health care demand, either episodic care, or only treating a body part or disease, and not the whole person or providing appropriate education/information in a manor tailored to each person’s specific needs (health literacy). It is unrealistic to think a patient is going to feel valued and empowered and have the resources to make health decisions that is best for them with information or information they can understand. And now back to treating the whole patient. We need to remove any stigma related to mental and emotional health. Mental and emotional health are just as important as physical health, and mental health effects influences your physical health. I think it is great your focus is on mental health. We definitely need more mental health providers. Having your own personal experience will allow you to be more empathetic, which is crucial to patient care. I am glad you are doing  better.

Anna,

I read you goals and Walden and so proud that you made a decision to pursue Masters in Nursing. the extensive 15 yrs of working as a nurse experience and with a masters degree in Adult Gerontology you will be an asset for any medical institute. I agree with you that Walden University flexible schedule was also a major attraction for me to choose the program. (Walden.edu)

Networking is no doubt, vital and in todays age we are blessed with the social media platforms if used wisely they are indeed a big help in networking and introducing meeting the people we would not have met otherwise. (Acquisti, A., Gross, R. (2006)
